A Spectacle of a Weekend

The Performing Arts Department (PAD) at WashU really put on a show this weekend, with a grand total of four productions passing through Edison Theater this weekend. They included:

Oedipus at Colonus,

(This second installment in Sophocles’ Theban Plays chronicles the tragic fates of the blinded Oedipus and his family. At the end of Oedipus’ life, a mysterious splendor surrounds his dying moments.)

The Vagina Monologues,

(An annual benefit show put on by WashU VDay, a student organization committed to ending violence against women and girls, which features a collection of stories told by women about women.)

WUSlam Grand Slam,

(A show put on by our spoken word group on campus, where 10 poets will give it their all on stage, and 4 will go on to represent WashU at CUPSI, the national college slam competition…with winners chosen by the audience!)

(and last but definitely not least:)

Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience ,

(A show that takes a madcap romp through all seven Harry Potter books, presented by storytellers Dan Clarkson and Jeff Turner. Students with the best costumes–for of course everyone should come dressed up to this show–can win prizes!)

For more information on these events or the many other ways there are to get involved in theater, dance, or spoken word on campus, check out the PAD or Edison Theater websites.
