Tuesday Tea at Three

Every Tuesday the Danforth University Center hosts an afternoon of tea and cookies for students and staff looking for a break from the hectic back-and-forth of classes and meetings (…and more classes and meetings…and classes). Ever since the beginning of the year I’ve been trying to make it to one of these glorious hour-long snack sessions, but, alas, I’ve always had a class or a meeting get in the way of me and my love of sugar cookies…

But today was different. Today was exceptional. Today, of course, was the day when I completely forgot it was Tuesday, completely forgot it was 3 o’clock, and happened to walk into a haven of baked items and the wafting aroma of tea leaves waiting for me at the DUC. I was so happy/shocked I almost didn’t know what to do with myself, but eventually I got my wits about me and headed over to the long line of students waiting to grab their free treats.

Hadn’t seen one of these bad boys since I left the Motherland!

For the next time that you might happen to walk into the DUC on a Tuesday at 3:00, here’s the protocol: grab a mug from the tray, choose between the two new flavors of fruit and black tea they feature every Tuesday (this week it was blueberry roobois and Chinese breakfast), pour yourself a cup, pick yourself a cookie from a batch of fresh sweets, and sit back in one of the comfy leather couches in Tisch Commons while sipping your drink and listening to some chill beats sampled by DJs from our radio station, KWUR.

If you’re lucky, and your day just keeps getting better and better, you might happen upon a group of Stressbusters handing out free swag (hand lotion and chocolate? Yes please.) and free backrubs while you’re there. All you have to do is sign up for a time slot and wait your turn for any one of a number of trained student volunteers to massage your headache from your impending calculus exam away into oblivion.

All in all, just one hour at the DUC made for yet another wonderful day on campus. And I even got some reading done while I was there…

Dostoevsky, a cup of tea, free stuff, and a message from Dove letting me know that “someone is thinking of you right now”…(thanks for that, corporate).
